Natural Piano Workshops

These workshops are usually two days in length.  The first day
includes an introduction to natural piano playing with a
mini-recital by Dr. Vicki King.  The afternoon is spent working
with students in a master class situation.  Teachers are able to
see how Dr. King uses natural movements of the hands--petting
a kitten or picking up a cup--and applying these movements to
piano playing.  Students and teachers become aware of the
hands and how they work with their instrument--a system of
simple levers, to make beautiful sounds.
Dr. Vicki King holds degrees in performance from Indiana University,  a Doctor of Arts
degree in Piano Pedagogy from the University of Mississippi, a Performer's
Certificate from the Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria, and further study in Cologne,
Germany.  She has taught all levels of students for thirty-five years, and has been
able to make a difference in a pianist's technique within a matter of hours.  She is
the author of the book, "Playing the Piano Naturally," which may be ordered from
Conners Publications:
www.music-usa.org/conners/, amazon.com, or the contact
page on this website. Dr. King is a member of the Leschetizky Association, the Music
Teachers National Association, and the National Guild of Piano Teachers.  She has
published numerous articles in
Piano Guild Notes, and reviews new music for this
publication.  She is on the faculty of Tennessee State University, Nashville, TN,  and
the American Institute of Musical Studies in Graz, Austria.
